How does Flurbiprofen work?
Flurbiprofen is an NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) derivative with analgesic and antipyretic action. The oral form of Flurbiprofen can be utilized for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis known as muscle weakness, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Flurbiprofen can also be used as a topical treatment before ocular surgery to avoid intra-operative Miosis in patients. Flurbiprofen is known to be pharmacologically related to ketoprofen, ibuprofen, and fenoprofen.
Like other NSAIA drugs, the effect on inflammation of fenoprofen happens via reversible prevention of the COX or Cyclooxygenase, the enzyme in charge for the conversion of PGG2 or arachidonic acid to prostaglandin G2 and PGH2 or prostaglandin H2 in the synthesis of the prostaglandin. This in effect reduces the concentration of certain prostaglandins that is causing pain, swelling, fever, and inflammation.
